Rag Rugs are Rad

3 Oct

Found these lil’ guys on Design*Sponge and fell in love five times over (one time for each rug).

For one: I have no rug in my room. Every night after walking to my bed on the hard wood, my feet whisper to me, “Zanna, please get us a rug,” and I have to explain to them that I just haven’t found the one yet.

Rejoice, little feet! I have found my rug. You will be cold and uncomfortable no longer!

For two: How amazing and creative are these? They are all so incredibly unique and colorful. What a great way to turn a simple room or one that doesn’t have a lot of color (read: my cave of a room), into a haven of rainbowness. These rugs have me so excited, I’m even making up words.

For a little history–you curious readers, you–these Boucherouite rugs, or rag rugs, are a new version of an old Moroccan tradition. Wool was expensive and hard to come by, so Moroccan families made their rugs from scraps of fabric they found, instead. Out of necessity comes art!

Do any of you have one of these? How much do you love them?

Zanna Like: Magical chairs

Fadeout-chair

via FFFFOUND!

I saw this chair a while ago and was like, “No way! So cool.” I think I sent the link to some of my friends who were likely less-than-jazzed, but they just don’t get it.

This chair is as close as we humans are going to get to magic, people. See how it gives you the illusion that the legs aren’t touching the ground and that it slowly grows into formation as you go up? I wonder if I would stub my toe more…hmmm.

Either way though, this is a sweet piece of furniture and don’t make fun of me for gettin’ all hot and bothered by a chair, okay?

Zanna Like: DIY furniture project to make mediocre, pretty

17 Sep

I’ve been quite excited for a new piece of furniture that my mother is bringing into the city in a week or so. I’ve been fantasizing about where I will put it, what fun, decorative knickknacks can go on it to make our mini-foyer purty. Should it be a landing strip for our apartment? Etc.

I spend hours a day scouring design sites anyway, but I was particularly happy when I came across this do-it-yourself project on Design*Sponge. Follow the link for the actual instructions but check out the before and after photo below.

So cool right?

Here’s the table that I will attempt to transform into something like the above masterpiece:

If I am successful in creating my own awesome re-vamped piece of work I will post it here! Otherwise, I’ll probably never mention this again because that’s just embarrassing.

What do you think? Can I do it?

Zanna Like: Wallpaper full of books

11 Sep

Isn’t there just a cozy feeling you get when you are surrounded by bookshelves and books? The possibilities! You can read any of the books or all of them. You’re engulfed in stories and knowledge! Maybe that’s just my inner nerd speaking, but you can relate, right?

My dream when I am growed-up is to have a library in my house. This, of course, will require me to become growed-up and to somehow be able to afford a house so, yes, I know this is a far-fetched dream, but let me live, okay?

However, just in case this dream doesn’t come true I have found an amazing alternative.

How cool is that?! Now all I need is a nook appropriate for this wall art.
