Ze Friday Nitez

24 Jan

What did you do on Friday night?

I sipped on the most delicious hot chocolate in the whole wide world at La Lanterna – yes, better than your grandma’s homemade hot chocolate – then stumbled upon a live jazz trio at Garage and enjoyed the music with some people from…an island that isn’t short…who weren’t exactly on board with said jazz. It’s called culture, my friends, culture.  I also convinced these same folks that my water was a quadruple vodka on the rocks that cost exactly $32. When you have a habit, I mean, you do what needs to be done. Like prostitute yourself out, which was precisely how I explained affording my habit. I think at that point they knew I was joking…but one can’t be sure.

Anywho – the night was grand. I mean what’s better than a fantastic cup of chocolate warmth and some jazz to take the chill out? Ain’t nothin’.

Below, please find my cup-o-chocolate upon delivery and about halfway through. Mmm. Me want more.

And I am Telling You – to bow down to Jennifer Holliday, or else.

26 Aug

I am posting the below video for multiple reasons. This is an homage to Jennifer Holliday, a sharing of my obsession for this song and also because I somehow came across this video, today though I can’t remember why…

Oh, yes I can.

Here it is: Tonight I will be partaking in karaoke and I was piecing together my set list along with my dressing room demands. (They had better not forget my Diet A&W Root Beer or heads will roll.)

Karoake is something I love that a lot of people despise. I get it – you don’t want to sing in front other people, especially because you likely suck at it. As my mother describes it, she hears the tune in her head perfectly but can’t make it come out right. Is that it? I wouldn’t know because my voice is like rainbows and sunshine to all surrounding me.

But anyway, I was telling my boyfriend, who also creates colorful arches upon singing (especially with his rendition of “Creep” by Radiohead), that my set list closer is going to be “And I am Telling You (I’m Not Going)” by Jennifer Holliday.  Particularly, I am going to sing, note for note, the below version.

FYI – The rest of the set list is confidential and you’ll have to make an appearance to find out more.

I think after watching this video, one of the best musical performances of all time, you will understand why I never say the word “karaoke” without “and OMG I’m so singing Jennifer Holliday” immediately afterwards.

Go ahead. Feast your senses with this cornucopia of sound and visuals.

I have created the below display for you lovely readers so you may bask in all the glory of JH’s facial expression. Rest assured I will be replicating these, too, during my performance tonight. I have this down to a science, don’t think I don’t.

Favorites? Have a little fun and put some captions to the above. You’ll get a giggle, I promise.

Here’s an example for bottom row, center: OM NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM!

Any other recommendations for tonight’s karaoke sesh or any other future ones??
